Gary Anglin

Ventura College

Gary Anglin played at Ventura College from 1970 to 1971 where he was a two-time All-WSC performer and the Western State Conference Player of the Year in 1972. He set numerous pitching records at Ventura. He transferred to UCLA where he played for Art Reichle. 

He began his baseball coaching career at UCLA and then at University of Wyoming. He returned to Ventura College in the fall of 1977 where he became the linebacker coach in the football program. He was named the Head Baseball Coach at Ventura College in 1978. He coached 17 years with a record of 330 wins and 266 losses. Coach Anglin transferred 89 players to the four-year colleges and 15 players signed major league contracts with 6 reaching the major leagues. 

Some of his players are Brook Jacoby (current hitting coach with the Cincinnati Reds and 2-time All-Star), JerryHaflich (Head Football at American River College), Tom LeVasseur (ex-minor league coach with the San Diego Padres), Robert Fick (hit last home run at Tiger Stadium for the Detroit Tigers) and Brandon Knight (currently pitching in Korea pro,league----only CCCAA player of the year from Ventura College). Thirteen of his players have become head coaches at the high school level. Since retiring from baseball in 1995, Gary continues to coach the linebackers at VC where they have won 7 championships and had the colleges first undefeated regular season this past year. He came back to the baseball program in 2009 as an assistant pitching coach and that team made the Southern California Regionals with 5 of his pitchers moving on to 4-year colleges and 2 signing pro-contracts. 

Gary continues to give pitching and hitting lessons in Ventura.

Coach Anglin was inducted into the Ventura County Hall of Fame in 2000.
