Alon Leichman – Cypress College – Coach Scott Pickler

Alon came to Cypress College from Kibbutz Gezer located not far from Tel Aviv, Israel.  Alon’s father David, helped develop Kibbutz Gezer and his mother, Miri, is a Rabbi. The Kibbutz has a baseball field and it is where Alon plied his trade as a shortstop and pitcher.

Alon has carried a 3.4 GPA at Cypress and plans on transferring to a Div.1 school most likely Miami of Ohio to continue his academic and baseball career.

At Cypress Alon has assisted in Adaptive PE classes for 3 hours each week as well as leading exercise programs for Jewish senior citizens. Coach Pickler says the following, “Alon is the ultimate teammate. He pushes others to take their game to the next level.”

Alon had Tommy John surgery as a freshman and battled back to be a short inning relief specialist. This role changed dramatically in the final game of the Super Regional with a trip to the State finals on the line. Alon was given his first start of his Cypress career against Mt. SAC. Alon’s line was: 9 inn pitched – no runs allowed  - 6 hits and a trip to Fresno for an eventual State Championship. Not bad for a kid from the Kibbutz!!
