2018 ABCA Hitting Hot Stove


Why Hot Stove? In baseball, hot stove league is the sport's off-season. The phrase does not denote an actual league, but instead calls up images of baseball fans gathering around a hot stove during the cold winter months, discussing their favorite baseball teams and players.


Nino Giarratano – University of San Francisco

Coach Giarratano is starting his 20th year as the head coach at USF. He has led the Dons to two conference titles and been named West Coast Conference Coach of the Year three times as well. He has the most wins in USF history while leading the Dons to three regional appearances.

He has also coached Team USA to a gold & silver medals in 2008 & 2010. Nino was also an assistant at Arizona State and a JC coach at Trinidad & Yavapai Community Colleges. He led Trinidad to 5 World Series appearances in 6 years. His winning percentage at the JC level is an amazing .718

This is Nino’s second appearance at the Hot Stove. He is well respected for his leadership, integrity & ability to coach hitters.


Scott Pickler – Cypress College

Coach Pickler is one of the most respected college coaches in the nation. The 2016 CCCCA Coaching Achievement Award winner is in his 33rd year with the Chargers. He has led them to five State Championships & four runner-up finishes with a total of eleven Final Four appearances.

Concurrently with his service to Cypress College, “Pick” has spent twenty years in the Cape Cod Summer League with Yarmouth-Dennis. The Red Sox have won six conference championships and two runner up finishes along with five East Division Championships under Pick’s leadership. In Pick’s tenure at Cypress & Yarmouth-Dennis there has been 113 former players play in the Major Leagues


 Tracy Archuleta – University of Southern Indiana

Tracy Archuleta has been successful every where he has coached. His 16 years as a head coach Coach Archuleta has a .623 winning percentage. In his 11 seasons at USI he has won two NCAA DII National Championships and been named ABCA’s National Coach of the year each time. He is the  winningest coach in USI history. The Eagles have had three GVLV West titles & three GVLC East titles and six trips to the NCAA Midwest Regionals

Prior to coming to USI, Tracy was head coach for University of Wisconsin – Parkside.
He took the program in his first year from a 13 win season to a 41 win season. In all Tracy has 500 plus wins as a head coach
