Ventura College baseball

is extremely proud to announce for the second consecutive year the Pirates will transfer double digit numbers of athletes on to continue their collegiate baseball careers at four year universities around the country. The Pirates sent 10 players to 4 year schools in 2013 and for the 2nd consecutive season will transfer 10 total athletes on to 4 year colleges. The Pirates will be represented at all 4 levels of 4 year college baseball with athletes attending NCAA Division 1, 2 and 3 schools, as well as NAIA level schools.

The group is headed by a pair of 2 time all conference selections and 2 of the most decorated players in Ventura College baseball history. Sophomore 3rd basemen Harrison Crawford will be continuing on to play at NCAA Division 1 Creighton University where he will play his home games at TD Ameritrade Stadium the home of the NCAA D1 College Baseball World Series. Crawford is anticipated to compete for the starting position at 3rd base where the Bluejays of Creigton lost their previous starter in the MLB draft. Sophomore Tyler Watson turned down numerous NCAA D1 offers instead to remain close to home at accept a scholarship to play for emerging NCAA D2 power Azusa Pacific University in the Pac West Conference. Watson is anticipated to join a rotation which saw three of its four starters selected in the MLB draft and fill in behind the Cougars returning ace who is a potential MLB first round draft pick. Watson additionally will be called on to serve as a Designated Hitter for the Cougar program and part-time starter at 1b for his JR season as the Cougars return their all-conference 1b with Watson slated to take over the role in his SR campaign.

The Pirates sent a pair of catchers on to the 4 year level with Sophomore Brian Magana accepting an offer to Azusa Pacific University where he will join Tyler Watson and compete for the starting catcher position. Sophomore Scott Morton who saw time at catcher, DH and LF this year for the Pirates signed a scholarship to compete for Briar Cliffe University in Iowa where he will look to fill a similar role next year for the NAIA school.

Redshirt Sophomore Tyler Shoop who spent three year at VC backing up some of the most decorated first basemen in school history has been offered a roster spot at North Central College an NCAA D3 school where Shoop is going to have the opportunity to play 1b/DH after spending three year at VC developing and honing his skills the Pirates are excited to see Shoop become a regular contributor to the lineup at North Central.

Redshirt Sophomore Timmy Ginther who was a 2 year starter for the Pirates baseball program who earned a pair of honors at the conference level, a gold glove and was a valued member of the Pirates program for 2 years working as a RF, 2b, 1b, RHP will accept a scholarship offer to play at William Jessup University in Northern California. Ginther will be enrolling in fall and competing in the spring of 2015 as a member of the schools first ever baseball team as William Jessup will enter competition at the NAIA level next year.

The Pirates pitching staff which was filled with sophomore arms saw this group transfer on in force to the 4 year level with the addition of Watson to the group the Pirates in all transferred 5 pitchers on to the 4 year level. Redshirt Sophomore RHP Sean Domke who was a stabilizing force in the Pirates rotation all year with Watson signed to play for Western Oregon University an established NCAA D2 power where the coaching staff is anticipating Domke to be an immediate contributor replacing the loss of 2 arms to the MLB draft. Sophomore Nathan Coakley a Right Handed reliever for the Pirates for the last two seasons is headed to NAIA power University of St. Francis where the staff expects Coakley to compete for a starting role in the rotation for the 2015 campaign. Sophomore Grayson Weber a Right Handed reliever who additionally served as the Pirates 3rd starter during his freshmen campaign accepted a scholarship to Fisher College in Massachusetts where he slated to compete for a spot in the rotation next season at the emerging NAIA school. Pirate baseball is extremely proud of these 10 athletes and their dedication to not only making themselves better baseball players, but their desire to continue their education and receive 4 year college degrees while continuing to compete in collegiate baseball. The Pirate baseball family will be rooting for each of you as you head off to Oregon, California, Nebraska, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana and Massachusetts next year. Go Pirates!
