MSJC Baseball Hires Lonsdale to Take Over Program

MSJC has announced it's new baseball coach and it is Mike Lonsdale who comes to Mt. San Jacinto after most recently being an assistant coach at Chaffey College.

Lonsdale began his coaching career in 2014 at California State Monterey Bay after a succesful career as a player for the Otters.  Lonsdale's duties at Monterey Bay included working with the team's outfielders and coaching first base.  During the 2015 season Monterey Bay posted a record of 27-13 in the highly competitive CCAA and reached the conference tournament.  All three of the starting outfielders on the 2015 team earned all-conference recognition.  The following season Lonsdale returned to Chabot Community College, where he also played.  He worked with catchers and hitters and served as the team's third base coach.  Chabot had an outstanding season as they reached the Elite Eight of the CCCAA State Tournament coming up just short as they lost to eventual State Champions Santa Rosa Junior College.  Lonsdale then moved on to Dodge City Community College in Kansas where he worked with catchers and pitchers and was the program's recruiting coordinator.  That season Dodge City set a program record for conference victories and finished second in the Jayhawk Conference.  At the conclusion of that season 8 players were named to the All-Conference team.  Lonsdale served the past two seasons as the lead assistant at Chaffey College.  This past season Chaffey finished with an overall record of 24-16 and were just one game out of second place in the rugged South Coast-North Conference.

"I would like to thank Dean Springer and Dr. Colson for this amazing opportunity," said Lonsdale  "I am excited to get started and plan on leading the baseball team in line with the vision of the college and the Athletic Department".  Lonsdale went on to say "We look forward to developing our student athletes on the field, in the classroom, and in the community".  The summer session for MSJC baseball is underway and the team is working out Monday through Thursday at 5 pm on the San Jacinto Campus.  "We will take pride in our recruiting and will strive to retain the top local talent".  "Our goals are to be highly competitive and to have our athletes matriculate at a very high rate".
